Update – This story is receiving no follow up at all by the local media, however, the mail service used to send this illegal mailer out,  Action Mail Services, has been used in the past by Rep. Alan Grayson.  From his political expenditures;

Understandably, this fact alone does not indicate guilt, however, it certainly should warrant a follow up by the FEC.  After all, this is a sitting U.S. Congressman who very well may have intentionally broken the law!  Or, is the impression many folks have that elected officials are above the law correct?

Desperate Times In FL-CD8…

As we come down to the final days of the mid-term election cycle, desperation and dirty tricks seem to be setting in with some.  As Dan Webster continues to maintain a steady lead in the polls in congressional district 8, a mysterious mailer has shown up in the mailboxes of the voters in that district.

The mailer has no return address or disclaimer identifying its source of funding, as election law requires, and it attacks Dan Webster’s record as state senate majority leader while promoting the Florida TEA Party political party candidate.

It’s important to note that the TEA Party political party does not represent the tea party movement and does not have the endorsement or support of any recognized tea party leader in the state.

The TEA Party political consultant, Doug Guetzloe, who is scheduled to begin a 60 day jail sentence on November 3rd for a previous election law violation, says, “it’s not ours”.

And, as expected, the Grayson campaign denies any involvement.  “We didn’t send it. None of us have even seen it,” Grayson campaign manager Susannah Randolph said.

Interestingly, the mailers have a tiny ‘union label’ on them.  It is well known that Alan Grayson enjoys strong support from unions and has received tens of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from multiple union organizations.

In another matter, Douglas James Coleman, a one-time Democratic Party canvasser, has been arrested for destroying ‘Dan Webster for Congress’ signs with a box cutter.  He was charged with criminal mischief.

After at least 25 of the Webster campaign’s signs were destroyed, Brian Graham, a senior advisor for Webster, and two others set up their own surveillance and caught Coleman in the act.  Good fortune was on their side, funny how that works out, as two Orlando police officers drove by as the suspect was being chased.

A spokesman for Alan Grayson said there’s no record Coleman has ever worked or volunteered for Grayson.

“Mudslinging, sign-slashing, illegal mailers; nothing surprises us at this point,” said Webster’s spokeswoman, Kathy Mears. “I can tell you one thing for sure, Daniel Webster will continue to keep his campaign positive and legal.”
