What Do Halloween And Politics Have In Common?

As I sit here 5 days away from the election and having spent the last seven months of my life in the “political arena”, I have come to the conclusion that Halloween and politics have a lot in common.  They are both full of tricks and treats.

As a person who had never been involved in politics just seven months ago, I have come to realize just how dirty politics can become.  The tricks and dirty politics that I have seen is sickening.  The false ads that take words and twist true meanings are running rampant in Central Florida.

The Taliban Dan ad by Alan Grayson will go down as the most egregious political ads in recent times.  It was a flat out lie and a desperate attack by a candidate who has no platform to run on.  It also was an attack on American values and the integrity of the election process.  This was just one of many false claims by Alan Grayson who chose to trick people into believing Daniel Webster was a bad person.

For those us smart enough to read between the lines, it was a treat that keeps on giving.  In fact, it gave Daniel Webster a boost to the tune of several hundred thousands of dollars in much needed campaign funds.  I am thankful that people on the left like Alan Grayson continue to try and deceive voters, because it only makes the case that Washington is broken, and it starts with getting rid of the people we have in office today, like Congressman Grayson.

Alan Grayson is not alone in his trickery.  Enter the Florida TEA Party and their cronies.  Using the tea party momentum and grabbing the name TEA party, Fred O’Neal and Doug Guetzloe decided to try and force candidates on the electorate.

Having no support from the tea party movement, they just decided to pick anyone who’d run for office and put them on the ballot.  Whether it was a co-worker, roommate, son, or any other breathing human being, they enlisted them to run for office.  Whether qualified to run for office or not, they could care less.

There are over 130 tea party/912 groups in Florida, and I have met no one in the movement that supports what they are doing.  So I decided to dig a few months ago to make sure I was not wrong in my observations.

When I went to their website, I checked out their “affiliations”.  I found 9 groups listed.  Two of the groups were legitimate tea parties and I was able to contact one group.  The Washington County Tea party in the panhandle.  She informed me that she had been fooled and she requested that the Florida TEA Party(political) take her group off of the FTP website.  What did she get in response?  A nasty threatening letter from Doug Guetzloe.

Her tea party is still listed on their website as an “affiliated” organization even though she does not support what they are doing.  The other organizations all have a Guetzloe connection and most are nothing more than social websites aimed at deception.  Sound familiar?

Then there was the deceptive mailer showing Patricia Sullivan on a Florida TEA Party mailer this past week.  Once again, it was a flat out trick to deceive voters into thinking Patricia supported Peg Dunmire of the Florida TEA Party(political).  Wrong.  Patricia is a tea party leader like me and many others who support Daniel Webster and to insinuate otherwise is despicable.

It gets worse when you are on the front line and I have seen just how evil the political process can be.  Many people in the public eye have no idea just how nasty and evil people who crave power can be.  Sadly, me and my wife have been subjected to the same bullying,  but the good news is, we are not going to back down.

We are not alone as many others have been subjected to the same sort of harassment throughout this election.  Our tea party has been accused of being a bunch or Republican operatives by the FTP and those on the far left.  Nothing could be farther from the truth.  We are trying to have “we the people” heard and nothing more.  To try and bully us and stop the voices of the people we represent is un-American and totally against the values the tea party represents.  The Florida TEA Party is nothing more than a political trick aimed at fooling voters this election.

The treat in all of this is that maybe in a small way, the effort and time spent by all the folks in the tea party movement and many others , will pay off next Tuesday on election day.  I believe good will always triumph evil in the long run and honesty is rewarded.

I salute Daniel Webster for running a clean campaign and not stooping to the dirty tactics of those on the left and the Florida TEA Party.  We need integrity and we need Daniel Webster to help fix this country!
