Congressman Grayson, a word to the wise, it’s not a smart move to upset the Corps!

A strongly worded letter (see below) was sent to Congressman Alan Grayson from the Florida Marine Corps League Commandant Bill Backes denouncing Grayson’s use of photo’s of uniformed North Lake Marines in campaign ads and calls for the removal of these photos.  Backes stated that these actions were “inexcusable and despicable”.

Commandant Backes goes on to say, “The By–Laws of the Marine Corps League specifically state that the League is “apolitical” and as a 501c organization we cannot support any candidate or any party without causing jeopardy to our federal charter. We find the action taken by you for your personal gain to be shameful and reprehensible.”

Add this developement to the misleading ad Grayson put out regarding Dan Webster’s supposed refusal to serve during the Vietnam War when Webster was actually given a medical deferment and one has to wonder if the Grayson campaign is throwing aside any and all principles in it’s quest to be re-elected.

Dear Congressman Grayson:

I feel compelled to relate to you an incident that took place at an event held in Mount Dora, Fl. In attendance at this event were Marine Corps League members of the North Lake Detachment. These Marines were in uniform as representatives of the Marine Corps League.

Also in attendance at this event was you, the U.S. House of Representatives Congressman from Florida’s 8th District. Pictures of the North Lake Marines in uniform were taken. The taking of the pictures is and of itself not a problem.

However, there is a problem and what the Marine Corps League finds offensive is that you, Congressman Grayson, used these pictures in political and TV ads to further your campaign for reelection, thereby subconsciously saying to the public that the Marine Corps League supports Alan Grayson. This is what the Marines of the Marine Corps League find inexcusable and despicable.

The By–Laws of the Marine Corps League specifically state that the League is “apolitical” and as a 501c organization we cannot support any candidate or any party without causing jeopardy to our federal charter. We find the action taken by you for your personal gain to be shameful and reprehensible.

The Marine Corps League strongly insists that this ad be removed from further showing.
