Arizona’s Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s Declaration of Independence

Arizona’s Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio fired back at the Obama administration in response to the federal lawsuit filed by Eric Holder’s Dept. of Justice.  Labeling the administration as “calculating and underhanded”, he goes on to detail the cooperation his office has extended to the DOJ, which is the basis of the lawsuit, in a statement released yesterday.

“The Obama administration has filed three lawsuits against Arizona in the last few weeks … one against a college district, one against the state of Arizona and now one against my office. Each lawsuit centers on something to do with alleged racial discrimination.  These actions make it abundantly clear that Arizona, including this Sheriff, IS Washington’s new whipping boy. Now it’s time to take the gloves off.

As for today’s lawsuit against my office: These people in Washington met with my attorneys only a few days ago. And in that meeting, Washington got our cooperation; they admitted they already have thousands of pages of the requested documents; and they were given access to interview my staff and get into my jails.

They smiled in our faces and then stabbed us in the back with this lawsuit. The Obama administration intended to sue us all along, no matter what we did to try to avert it.  Washington isn’t playing fair and it’s time Americans everywhere wake up and see this administration for what it really is. Calculating, underhanded at times and certainly not looking out for the best interests of the legal citizens residing in this country. “

Ironically, this is the same Eric Holder that brazenly discriminated in favor of the two Black Panther members in his refusal to pursue voter intimidation charges filed against them, claiming that Arizona is discriminating! 

In what promises to have far reaching ramifications, we now have states being attacked with the full force of the federal government.  The citizens of this country can no longer look to Washington, D.C. to be the defender of their unalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. 

In a desperate attempt to retain the support of the Hispanic community, the Progressive Far Left that now controls the U.S. Government will use all means at their disposal to protect illegal immigrants.  Just as we see with Obama’s ill conceived foreign policy in Iraq and Afghanistan, we have a President placing politics ahead of the best interests of the citizens of this country.

The recently filed lawsuits are part of that strategy.  It is little more than an attempt to use the courts to render states impotent in enforcing immigration laws that the federal government refuses to enforce, and to intimidate and bully those that try.  With the three lawsuits now filed against Arizona by the Obama administration, it’s clear that Obama intends to make an example out of Arizona for any other state that may be considering such brazen actions as attempting to enforce the laws of this land.  

This is yet another example of President Barack Obama taking a stand on the opposite side of the American people.  The enamored media is quick to condemn and ridicule anyone who suggests that Obama hates America, yet, whenever the vast majority of Americans support an issue, we can be sure that this President will be standing on the opposite side of that issue.  We see this in his opposition to the Arizona immigration law, in his support for healthcare reform, as well as his position on the Ground Zero mosque.

These are historic times, folks.  It has been more than 240 years since so many in this country have looked upon the federal government as such a tyrannical oppressor.   Just as our forefathers were forced to come to an unavoidable conclusion, so too must we come to understand that when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce us under absolute despotism, it is our right, it is our duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for our future security.  

The history of the present President is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute tyranny over these states.

However, because of the great sacrifice of our forefathers, brought about by their faith in Providence, we have a far easier path to travel.  Our weapon is our vote.  It is incumbent on the American citizen to understand that we stand at a crossroad.  This generation, in this time, will decide the future course of the United States of America. 

Thomas Jefferson said it best when he said, “If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.”

November is coming.  The American people will have the opportunity to turn the course we find ourselves on.  If we come up short in that quest, may God have mercy on the future of the United States of America.
