With all results in, what was thought to be a tight race turned out to be no contest at all.

Dan Webster easily prevailed in the congressional district 8 Republican primary last night with 40% of the total vote.  His prize?  Mr. Webster has won the honor of being the individual who will replace Alan Grayson in November.

Most expected this race to be much tighter, although Webster was the favorite all along.  Somewhat surpisingly, Kurt Kelly and Bruce O’Donoghue did not have a strong showing, which certainly contributed to Webster’s margin of victory.

Todd Long, who came up short against Ric Keller in 08′, finished second again with 22% of the vote.

Solid name recognition was a deciding factor for Webster, as was a strong ground game, both being a culmination of his many years in the Florida Legislature.  Coupled with a stellar reputation and a good conservative record, Webster was just too strong a candidate to overcome.

Stopping by the Central Florida Christian Academy last night to congratulate Mr. Webster, I saw a man who was thankful for the support he received from the Central Florida community, but more importantly, I saw a man who understands a greater challenge lies ahead in what is expected to be a very bitter race to unseat Alan Grayson.

Grayson, by his very nature, will drag local politics to an all time low in his bid to stay in office.  In many ways, Webster is the perfect candidate to stand up to the barrage that will be unleashed.  With his reputation as a man of strong principles, Webster will make it difficult for Grayson to engage in his favorite tactic – character assasination.

As a recognized leader of the Orlando tea party movement, I spoke briefly with Webster last night, along with Clyde Fabretti, co-founder of the West Orlando Tea Party, and we assured him that he can count on the support of the local tea party movement in his quest to defeat Grayson.

For supporters of the the other six candidates, it’s important to understand that the primary is now over and it’s time to come together in the critical need to end the national embarrassment known as Alan Grayson.   Together, we can put an end to his progressive far left agenda that is crippling this community and our nation.

United, we will prevail, divided, we fail…
