Florida Atlantic University Officials Deny Conservative Group the Right to Organize Again!!!

(Davie, FL) On the first day of school at the Florida Atlantic University (FAU) Davie Campus, the Florida Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) were denied the right to exercise their first amendment rights to “freedom of speech” and to “peaceably assemble” AGAIN! A group of current students and an FAU alum were handing out informational material and asking students to join the FAU Broward YAF chapter so they could organize on that campus. Within thirty minutes, an administrator told the students to leave. What soon followed was a barrage of police and university administrators essentially telling the students that it was their way or the highway, completely ignoring their constitutional rights. The entire incident was caught on tape by Florida YAF State Chairman Daniel P Diaz.

“It’s an absolute shame that an institute of higher learning would impede on our constitutional rights as students. It is a direct reflection of today’s liberal political atmosphere; instead of encouraging the students to express themselves freely, we were discouraged by bureaucratic red tape,” said Walter “Marty” Hughes, Chairman of the FAU Broward YAF chapter.

This was the second time in a little over six months that the same university has denied students the right to organize a YAF chapter. On March 3, 2010, Florida YAF was denied the right to assemble and organize on the FAU Boca Raton Campus. Florida YAF State Chairman Daniel P. Diaz was accused of trespassing and was almost arrested after holding an informational meeting to discuss the purpose of the group. The story hit the Internet, the radio waves nationwide and, finally, the Tea Party movement. Within a week there were so many phone calls and e-mails being sent to the university that the dean of students contacted the state chairman and asked him to, “Call of your dogs,” adding that “we [FAU] will work with you and start a chapter”.

“We will fight for Freedom on every campus in the state. This type of attitude towards students and non-students is typical on campuses across the country. Leftist dministrators believe that the Constitution does not exist and that university policy trumps the Constitution on public universities,” said Florida YAF State Chairman Daniel P Diaz.

ABOUT FLORIDA YOUNG AMERICANS FOR FREEDOM
Florida Young Americans for Freedom is a statewide organization dedicated to the principles set in the Sharon Statement by our founder, William F. Buckely, Jr. Among these are the individual’s use of his God-given free will, whence derives his right to be free from the restrictions of arbitrary force; the belief that liberty is indivisible, and that political freedom cannot long exist without economic freedom; the demand that the purpose of government is to protect those freedoms through the preservation of internal order, the provision of national defense, and the administration of justice; and a knowledge that the genius of the Constitution – the division of powers – is summed up in the clause that reserves primacy to the several states, or to the people in those spheres not specifically delegated to the Federal government.
