This Week's Rambling Thoughts; Tea Party Conundrum

We few, we band of brothers…those of us in district 8 that have been active in the political realm for the past year and half find ourselves in a conundrum.

Having endured the current reign of Congressman Alan Grayson for just as long, many of us have coalesced around a common goal of quickly ending his career as our representative.  That bond grew as we watched Grayson completely ignore the will of the people when voting on Cap and Trade, even though his own staff said the calls to his office were in the neighborhood of 1,500 Against – 3 For.  Adding insult to injury, he goes on the House floor in full view of all and announces the ‘deal’ that purchased his vote.

As if that were not bad enough, then came Health Care Reform, which Grayson fully embraced despite strong opposition in his district.  When his constituency expressed concerns about the public option being “creeping socialism”, he arrogantly replied, “Haven’t we already sort of crossed that line?”

We continued to endure the blatant disrespect from Grayson during this long battle, with these comments quickly coming to mind;

“Knuckle-dragging Neanderthal” Republicans”

“Republican health care plan – die quickly”

Then there was the stacked town hall that Grayson held in a union hall, with union goons guarding the doors.  The town hall was preceded by a Democrat Executive Commitee meeting, with these participants remaining inside, and then, union members and activists from Organizing For America being allowed in before the doors were opened to the general public.  Once the doors were opened, 95 of the 126 available seats were already filled, leaving just 31 seats for the 1000+ patiently waiting outside.

As for his opinion of those who make up the tea party movement, Grayson said, “I think these (Tea Partiers) are just mean people who are acting up. I can tell you that they should be glad that Health Care Reform has mental health coverage, because some of them need it.”

So, back to our conundrum, we must begin by working this problem backwards.  It’s simply not an acceptable outcome for the district 8 congressional seat to remain under Alan Grayson’s tutelage.  Of which, most rational people will agree.  Think very hard about this, what message does a Grayson victory send to the entire country about the residents of Central Florida?

To ensure that this disastrous outcome is avoided, we must present the most capable opponent that best represents our values to challenge Grayson.

So, with seven candidates still on the ballot for the Republican nominee, will this be the case?  Or, will it be more in line with what we saw in Illinois earlier this year, where three tea party candidates where on the ballot, effectively splitting the grassroots vote and allowing a far more moderate politician to win that primary?

And, even though none of the seven candidates in the district 8 primary fall under a ‘moderate’ label, will conservatives still rally around a candidate that is not seen as a product of the tea party?

When we look upon the November election, we must acknowledge that the citizens of this country will be deciding the future course of this great nation.  In a very short few months, we will decide what kind of country our children and grandchildren will grow up in.  These are serious times, times that try men’s souls…and we have to rise above the  individual and focus on a far greater purpose.

For some this means it’s time to face up to some hard realities.  In the district 8 Republican primary, there are a couple of individuals that have simply not gained the necessary traction.  It is now time for these two to drop out.  It’s not an easy decision, much time and money has been invested, yet, it’s the right decision.  This is no time for ego’s, America deserves better.

Of the remaining five, I offer this –

Our lives improve only when we take chances – and the first and most difficult risk we can take is to be honest with ourselves. ~ Walter Anderson

Alan Grayson will bring politics in Central Florida to a new low between August 24 and November 2.  We will see a full scale all out assault on the Republican nominee.  The Democrat Party will engage in this destruction, as will the Hollywood elite and the multiple far left propaganda outlets that are propped up by George Soros.

After all, Grayson is their kind of guy!

Who among the remaining five is properly steeled for this battle?  Who possesses the courage and the moral character to stand in the midst of the coming storm.  Is it the reluctant hero?  The one who’s career choices have been restricted?  The one that struggles with salvation?  Or the one who’s quiver is woefully short of arrows?

One trait that seems to be common amongst all the primary candidates is love of country.  It is time for some honest soul searching and fervent prayer from these candidates.  Time to put emotion aside, to understand the enormity of the challenge and appeal to the pragmatist within.

Perhaps, in a perfect world, the field narrows even further upon this self reflection.  One thing is certain, there is no perfect candidate.  Each will have their flaws and each will fall short in some way of pleasing the needs of every voter.

At the end of the day, it’s up to the voters of district 8 to decide.  Are the values of the tea party movement really important to you?  When you set aside all the propaganda and mistruths about the movement, it comes down to fiscal responsibility, limited government and free market solutions.  It’s about bringing honesty, integrity and common sense back to the halls of Congress.  In the end, it’s what our Founding Fathers envisioned, government of the people, by the people and for the people.

Please choose wisely, Central Florida…I can’t fathom two more years of Alan Grayson!
