NOTE–I will disclose who I am voting for and endorsing in FL-24 on Monday. I welcome any discussion from the campaigns involved over the weekend.

Since posting about Karen Diebel’s support of the Fair Tax I have received confirmation from the campaigns of Sandy Adams, Craig Miller and Tom Garcia, each expressing support of the Fair Tax. As a voter in District 24, I am happy that our potential Republican nominees have seen the light on this crucial issue.

For those of you who don’t know, the Fair Tax is a proposed change to our tax system. Instead of having an income tax, America would adopt a consumption-based tax system, in which everyone was taxed equally based on what they buy, thus the name ‘Fair Tax.’ The government could no longer decide how much you pay in taxes based on how much you make. You would decide how much you pay in taxes based on how much you spend.

The beauty of this system, from my perspective, is that it prevents the irresponsible spending in Washington that threatens our country. It prevents the entitlement mentality that says “Tax the rich for all they’re worth” so that money can be spent on programs that make us more dependent on government, rather than our own hard work, for our livelihood. If you have never read about the Fair Tax, I would encourage you to purchase “The Fair Tax Book” by Neal Boortz to learn more about it.

Everybody talks about fiscal responsibility and bringing change to Washington. Supporting the Fair Tax shows that you are willing to put your money where your mouth is and actually take a giant leap forward in that direction. Although I would never make the Fair Tax the only consideration in casting my vote, because of connection between the progressive tax system and the liberalism that has been threatening our country, supporting the Fair Tax will almost guarantee you my vote.

FL-24 Fair Tax Landscape

Back to the race at hand. Florida’s District 24, the Kosmas seat. This race features several candidates with slightly different ways of articulating the importance of this Fair Tax.

Craig Miller sees both the long term benefit of the Fair Tax, as well as the need for some interim steps to be taken even before it is enacted. A statement from Miller’s campaign said that “the Fair Tax is a very good long term solution that will provide more equality through a consumption based system.” Miller also sees the need for intermediate steps to be taken. He says that until we can enact the Fair Tax, we need to “make the Bush Tax cuts permanent, repeal and replace ObamaCare, repeal the Death Tax once and for all, and lower the marginal tax rates for businesses to better compete.”

Some people portray the Fair Tax as an extremist idea. The liberal mainstream media, for example, has disparaged Sharron Angle for her support of the Fair Tax, calling her an extremist for wanting to abolish the IRS. According to Sandy Adams, however, the Fair Tax is a common sense alternative that is increasingly essential to bringing about the kind of financial change we need. Her website speaks of needing a “simpler tax code that every American can understand” under the principals that “Americans can do a better job managing their own money than the government,” especially during these trying economic times.

The good news is this, the Republican candidate against Kosmos will be a potential additional Fair Tax supporter. Races like FL-24 show that due to America’s conservative renewal, other wise known as the Tea Party effect, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to engage in political posturing without a firm commitment to stop the progressive tax system in its tracks. The only way to do that is through the Fair Tax.

As a voter in FL-24, I must admit the choice is not an easy one (for that matter, neither was FL-8). Last week I was leaning toward Karen Diebel due to her support of the Fair Tax. I issued a challenge to the other candidates to make their positions on the Fair Tax clear, and heard from all of them. So, true to my word, I went back to the drawing board. Tune back in Monday for the results.
