'Humble Public Servants Of The City Beautiful'

Is the term ‘humble public servant’ still applicable in America?

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the federal government ADDED 86,000 high paying jobs to the rolls. The number of federal salaries over $100,000 has increased by 50% since the beginning of the recesssion.

Today, the average federal worker earns 77% more than the average private sector worker, according to a USA Today analysis of data from the Office of Personnel Mgmt.

It seems that government has discovered that it has the means to reward itself when the citizenry has removed itself from the governance of society.  With the public asleep at the wheel and the media no longer playing watchdog, it’s every public servant for himself!

In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place, oblige it to control itself.  – James Madison

As Central Florida continues to slog it’s way through a recession, with unemployment in the area at a record level and every concievable means of further taxing the public and business being employed, including clever rate hikes and fee increases on services, perhaps, it will be reassuring to see the sacrifice some of our local public officials are making on your behalf:
