Americans: Pay attention to Greece
Many Americans are completely unaware of what is happening across the Atlantic. In particular, the Greece financial woes and how it relates to the US and world economies. Greece recently had its credit rating lowered due to poor financial mismanagement on the Government’s part. Short term rates in Greece are at an astounding 14%.
Are we headed towards Greece? Right now it appears we are headed in that direction. Greece is yet another example of failed European Socialism and it is time for all Americans to pay attention to history and realize the path we are on.
Take a few minutes to read below about what is going on in Greece and the surrounding countries. The quotes below are from a few recent news stories regarding the Greece situation. The countries and names were changed: Greece to America and Greeks to Americans in order to show how close we resemble each other in certain aspects.
“Living in a comfortable and debt financed socialism for many years, America reacted with a mix of resignation and outrage on Monday to a painful austerity package from the government.”
“With the consent of the political and social forces we will make the changes that are needed to the political system and the economy that should have been made years ago,” the American President said. “Now is the opportunity to make these changes.”
“An estimated 100,000 people took to the streets Wednesday during a nationwide wave of strikes against spending cuts aimed at saving the country from bankruptcy.”
“Millions of American workers were taking part in Wednesday’s strike, which was called by the United State’s two major umbrella unions, the private-sector AFL-CIO and the Change to Win Federation, amid widespread discontent over the measures.
These headlines are not in America but actually happening in Greece today. It does not take a whole lot of imagination to see where we may be headed if we continue down the current path . Every day that we go further into debt, the more likely it becomes that we will repeat history. I just wish our government would make the tough decisions now rather than later. They are losing the confidence of many Americans as we continue down this path.
Americans are not blind as to what is going on. As long as Obama, Pelosi, and Reid push their ideological European Socialist agenda on Americans, our economy will suffer. November may very well turn out to be the most important election in our Country’s history. I just hope American’s live up to their civic responsibility and vote for those candidates who are willing to deal with the tough issues now and vote out those who have created this mess.
Our children and grandchildren are having the American Dream taken away from them at this very moment and those responsible should be ashamed. They won’t be ashamed however. In their own little mind, they like European Socialism and feel it is a good thing that America is moving in that direction. Why? I have no earthly idea. The solution is simple: Those who embrace European Socialism should just pack their bags and go to Greece and leave us Americans alone. We like our Constitution and our American way of life.
