Obama 'amused' by Tea Party Rallies

As millions of citizens across the country protest on April 15th, Tax Day, taking issue with “out of control spending, government takeovers, increased taxes on the local, state and federal levels”, according to Jason Hoyt, Orlando Tea Party organizer and co-host of the radio show Tea Party Patriots Live, President Obama declares he is “amused” by the rallies and adds, “they should be saying Thank you.”

“I’m completely offended by our President.  And as we exercise our God given right to free speech and take issue with policies that the majority of Americans simply do not want, with consequences of incredible debt for ourselves, our children and grandchildren, he expects us to thank him?  I don’t think so Mr. President!!” –  Barbara Seidenberg, Orlando Tea Party organizer.

This certainly brings to mind that line from the character played by Joe Pesci in Good Fellas;  “…like I’m a clown, I amuse you?  I’m here to amuse you?”  A little cleaned up, as you can see, but you get the point.

President Barack Obama struck a hyperpartisan note Thursday, telling Democrats that he was “amused” by the Tax Day Tea Party rallies.

Obama, addressing a Democratic National Committee (DNC) fundraiser in Miami, did little to endear himself to the Tea Party groups protesting around the country, saying “they should be saying thank you” because of the tax cuts he has signed into law.

The president went as far as to say that this week’s special election in Florida, which was won by Democrat Ted Deutch, was portrayed by Republicans as “a referendum on healthcare, a referendum on the stimulus.

“And you know what, it was,” Obama said to applause.

Obama continued to dare Republicans to run on a platform of repealing healthcare reform, telling the audience “they won’t be very successful.”

Despite the president’s confidence, DNC Chairman Tim Kaine told the crowd that they should assume that Democrats are “running into a headwind” in the November midterms.

According to Congressman Paul Ryan (R-WI), however, who appeared on Larry Kudlow’s show on CNBC on April 15th, said we need a tax code “to maximize economic gain, not social engineering”.  Although Rep. Ryan discussed a single tax on income, many of the 5,000+ Tea Party protests across the country offered the FairTax as a suggested solution.

What do you think?  Should we be thanking him?
