Photo of Obama sporting a salt-n-pepper beard throws Twitter into a tailspin

Has Barack Obama officially joined the #BeardGang movement?

The former president was the subject of a viral sensation last week after an altered photo showing him with a beard made the rounds on social media.

Many of Obama’s supporters spoke favorably of his supposed new look.

The bearded Obama picture was created from a photo of him taken at an event organized by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in 2017.

Some likened the frenzy over the picture to the controversy that broke out after Obama wore a tan suit to a press conference in 2014.

The former president has said he has difficulty growing a beard, which is why he prefers the clean-shaven look.

If he did let his facial hair grow out, he would join the growing list of public figures who sport beards after leaving the spotlight.

The Photoshoped image came out days before real portraits of Barack and Michelle Obama were unveiled at the Smithsonian. The former first lady’s picture drew heavy criticism and snark from social media.

It’s better to have the Obama’s looks making waves on social media than to have them making policy in the White House.
