Pentagon responds to California teacher who called US troops ‘a bunch of dumb s–ts’

The military’s take on a recent controversy once again shows why our men and women in uniform command respect.

The Pentagon on Monday responded to remarks by a California teacher and Democratic city councilman, who called members of the US military “a bunch of dumbs***s,” the Washington Examiner reports.

Last week, high school history teacher Gregory Salcido was caught going on a vulgar anti-military rant in viral footage recorded by a student.

“We’ve got a bunch of dumbs***s over there,” Salcido said. “Think about the people who you know who are over there — your freakin’ stupid uncle Louis or whatever, they’re dumbs***s. They’re not, like, high-level thinkers, they’re not academic people, they’re not intellectual people, they’re the freakin’ lowest of our low. Not morally, I’m not saying they make bad moral decisions, they’re not talented people.”

The Pico Rivera High School instructor also compared military recruiters to pimps and said the only people who enlist are those whose families don’t “love” them enough to push them into college.

Amber Smith, the Pentagon’s director of outreach, called the comments “uninformed.” The Pentagon official used the questioning about the disgraced city councilman to discuss the new “This is Your Military” initiative.

“I have seen maybe a few things that he said that were very uninformed, and I think that’s an excellent example of who we would like to connect with, and inform them with an accurate image of those who are serving and why they serve,” said Smith.

“We are going to be telling military stories to a non-military audience,” she explained of “This is Your Military,” which aims to educate the general public about the armed forces.

Smith, who was an Army Kiowa helicopter pilot in Iraq and Afghanistan prior to being appointed to her current role by President Trump last year, asserted that “We need to get some facts out there and make sure people are getting accurate information.”

According to CBS 2 Los Angeles, Salcido was removed from all committees on the Pico Rivera City Council over his remarks. He was first elected to the lawmaking body in 1999 and twice served as the city’s mayor.

El Rancho Unified School District released a statement on Friday saying an investigation is underway and that Salcido will face discipline.

The school suspended the polemic teacher in 2012 for allegedly striking a student. In 2010, he was accused of threatening a female student and uttering racial slurs in class.

Members of Pico Rivera’s American Legion chapter plan to protest Salcido’s comments Tuesday night, CBS 2 reports.

Since the news broke, the educator has reportedly deleted his Instagram account and hidden his Facebook profile.
