Joy Reid, if Trump is “an authoritarian of the first order,” he’s the worst one in human history

MSNBC’s Joy Ann Reid appeared on “Hardball'” and expounded on her judicious and not-at-all-hyperbolic belief that “Trump is an authoritarian of the first order and he’s behaving like one.”

“Listening to this alarm bell from all of these right wingers and commentators and right-wing commentators, you would think they’re ready for a military coup,” host Chris Matthews led in. “We have a disgrace, like the Greek generals or somewhere in Argentina. We have to disgrace the entire U.S. Justice system to justify overthrowing it. What’s coming here?”

“You know, that Washington Post story said that two of Donald Trump’s favorite world leaders are Erdogan of Turkey and Vladimir Putin,” Joy Reid said. “It does seem Donald Trump has the tools of authoritarianism down. He that the dance of authoritarianism down to a science.”

“Step one, claim the investigation of you is a fraud being conducted by enemies of the state,” Reid continued. “Step two, get your state-run media, your affinity media to echo that into your base and whip them up into a frenzy against those investigating you. Step three, get the state party, in this case the Republican Party, to echo that from the seat of government and say, ‘wait a minute, the people investigating the president are themselves criminals.'”

“Create this feedback loop that creates a feeding frenzy that has now essentially got Republicans claiming that Bob Mueller, probably the most respected member of law enforcement in the last 30, 40 years in the United States, essentially being characterized as a criminal, and then of course, you have to add that last step,” she said. “Call for the prosecution of your political enemies in this case, dredging up Hillary Clinton to again call to lock her up. Donald Trump is an authoritarian of the first order, and he’s behaving like one.”

It seems like Joy Reid and MSNBC are familiar with these propaganda tools all-too-well, given that everyone knows the network is a mouthpiece of the Democratic Party. It is also well known that its comrades in the media – such as CNN, ABC, CBS, and NBC – march much more in lockstep with MSNBC and Democratic Party talking points than Republican ones.

If Trump is a dictator, he’s a very incompetent one. If asked to name a “dictatorial” policy of the Trump administration, one that uses unauthorized government force to push citizens to adopt behavior against their will, most Americans couldn’t even legitimately cite one.

Let’s also consider that only 5% of all media coverage on Trump is positive, according to media analysis. Compare that with the relatively glowing 42% positive coverage of Obama, which outweighed the negative coverage 2-to-1.

Then there’s the matter of Trump purposefully stripping the federal government of power, such as the FCC’s decision on Net Neutrality, tax cuts that restore more economic control to the private sector, the slashing of government regulations, and his overturning of unconstitutional executive orders like DACA. When it comes to some of the most heated accusations of executive overreach, such as the so-called “Muslim” travel ban, the Supreme Court has affirmed Trump is within his duly granted powers.

The news media is characterizing Trump as “dictatorial” merely because he is pushing back against their totalitarian impulses; subsequently, they are lashing out with botched Russia conspiracy stories, while championing themselves as the Trump “Resistance.” Make no mistake: This is propaganda, pure and simple.

The U.S. news media are in so deep with the Democratic Party and the leftist agenda, journalists are like fish who don’t even know they’re wet. Some may even be delusional enough to think they’re “objective.”

When news story after news story that pushes towards Trump impeachment turns out to be false, and always pushes the same Democratic Party preferred narrative, one really has to wonder if the cries of Trump being a “dictator” are just from a media frustrated that no one’s really believing them anymore.
