CNN’s big abortion story doesn’t have a single pro-life voice. Here’s why that’s shocking …

Kentucky is one of the most staunchly pro-life states in the U.S., but CNN’s Wednesday piece on abortion and reproductive health care in Kentucky did not include a single pro-life voice.

“Just incredible. This 5,000-word report manages to exclude female pro-life voices… in a state where 57% of residents think abortion should be ‘illegal in all or most cases,’” Sen. Mike Lee’s speechwriter, Blake Seitz, tweeted.

In a story entitled “Forget abortion: What Women in Appalachian Kentucky Really Want,” CNN reporter Jessica Ravitz opens with the story of a rape victim, then pivots to focus on Appalachian Kentucky — where the teen birth rate is 34 percent higher than the rest of the state — to tout birth control as the solution.

The piece features resident Stacie Sexton, who had an abortion and spoke critically of the abstinence-only education she received in school. Ravitz also wrote about a Kentucky writer, Arwen Donahue, who is composing a graphic novel about choices, reproduction and motherhood.

Nearly 60 percent of Kentucky residents think abortion should be outlawed; however, CNN turned the narrative into one that promotes birth control and reproductive health care.

“What can make a difference in tackling unplanned and unwanted pregnancies are more conversations about — and more access to — birth control, reproductive health care and sex ed,” Ravitz wrote in her article.

Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin recently signed a law banning abortions after 20 weeks, and the state has only one remaining abortion clinic. North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, West Virginia, Missouri and Mississippi also have only one abortion clinic, as of May 2017.
