A woman who was recorded walking naked through New York City streets finally had her day in court.
The 25-year-old woman’s name was withheld, but in emotional testimony accused her ex-boyfriend, Jason Melo of torturing her before he made her walk the streets with nothing on but her boots.
“He grabbed my neck, and forced it really hard. I was losing breath,” the sobbing young woman told a court, the Daily Mail reported. She said she was tortured for two hours before he forced her outside and put her in a humilating situation.
“He was saying many things, like I’m a whore, I could kill you right now, I’m capable of anything,” she told the court.
Nearly one year ago, BPR reported on the story after video of the woman went viral. Unbelievably, Melo received sympathy via social media after he expressed supposed remorse for his actions.
After his girlfriend’s testimony, it appears his abhorrent actions were even worse than originally suspected.
Melo allegedly became enraged after finding explicit text messages on his girlfriend’s phone. He’s been accused of throwing a heavy stone Buddha statue at his then-girlfriend as their infant baby lay sleeping nearby.
“He said, you know what, you’re gonna pay. You’re gonna get naked and you’re gonna go out on the street, and you’re gonna pay,” she testified.
In the video, the woman is seen wearing nothing but a towel, but as Melo berates her, he grabs the towel, leaving her completely exposed. The video was posted to LiveLeak and Instagram before finding its way throughout social media.
“Pay the price for your shame!” he yelled at her.
“You’re going to pay the price for being a whore. Since you’re a whore, you’re going to pay like a whore.”
During the video, his girlfriend denied having sex with any other partner .
To prove what a standup guy Melo thinks he is, he bragged that he could’ve been much harder on his ex-girlfriend.
“I didn’t hit her or anything. Even the detectives are here with me and some of them congratulated me because they see how happy she is and I didn’t pull her hair or anything,” Melo said at the time of his arrest according to the Daily Mail.
“Some of the other prisoners are also on my side and they say some of them would have done worse things.”
Melo allegedly tried to make money off the video by selling merchandise highlighting quotes he can be heard saying, the Daily Mail reported.
“Let’s go, participa,” one cap read.
Melo, 26, has been charged with coercion, assault, aggravated harassment, menacing, criminal obstruction of breathing and endangering the welfare of a child and is facing up to seven years in jail if convicted, the Daily Mail reported. Meanwhile, his girlfriend says she’s been living in hiding while taking care of her young daughter.
