It seems Rep. John Conyers’ son and appointed successor may face some challenges convincing voters he’s the right man for the job.
John Conyers III, who was endorsed by the Michigan Democrat and most senior member of the House of Representatives, once attempted to be a rap artist, bragging in songs about drug-dealer friends and a father who “is a f***ing player.”
Some of his songs included lyrics like, “My n***as turn grams into grands” and “Ay f**k making a living bro, I’m trying to make history/So picture me letting the news nit-pick at me.” He also rapped about other family incidents including the three year jail sentence for his mother, former Detroit councilwoman Monica Conyers, for taking bribes, The Daily Caller reported.
The 88-year-old Conyers announced Tuesday that he was immediately “retiring”- not resigning – amid multiple sexual harassment accusations against him by at least six former female staffers. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, formerly praising the longtime civil rights activist as an “Icon,” later joined others in calling for him to step down.

“My legacy can’t be compromised or diminished in any way by what we are going through now,” he told Detroit radio host Mildred Gaddis, according to The Daily Caller. “I want you to know that my legacy will continue through my children.”
The Democratic lawmaker who has served in Congress for more than five decades was hospitalized after the allegations surfaced and he faced crumbling support from colleagues.
Although his replacement will be chosen in a special election, Conyers announced his son as his successor while his great-nephew, Michigan state senator Ian Conyers told CBS News he also has plans to run for the seat.
