MSNBC host seeks Trump’s removal from presidency using 25th amendment

“Morning Joe” has taken his spat with President Trump to nuclear levels.

On the Thursday morning edition of “Morning Joe,” host Joe Scarborough accused President Trump of having dementia and called for his removal from office via the 25th Amendment.

Scarborough called the President “completely detached from reality.” He also claimed members of the Trump campaign personally told him President Trump suffers from dementia.

“[A]nd the question is Mika, if this is not what the 25th amendment was drafted for, I would like the cabinet members serving America, not the president, not serving the president …

“You serve America and you know it. You know you don’t serve Donald J. Trump, scam developer, scam you know Trump University proprietor. Reality TV show host, you don’t represent him. You represent 320 million people whose lives are literally in your hands and we are facing a showdown with a nuclear power and you have you somebody inside the White House that the New York Daily News says is mentally unfit, that people close to him say is mentally unfit, that people close to him during the campaign told me had early stages of dementia. Now, listen, you can get mad at me if you want to …”

Scarborough painted a grim picture in which President Trump is provoking North Korea into engaging in nuclear war. The MSNBC host challenged the President’s cabinet, including Defense Secretary James Matthis and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, to take action.

“It is ok to say. When are we supposed to say this? After the first nuclear missile goes? Is that when it’s proper to bring this up in polite society? Tell me General Mattis, when is it polite to bring this up in polite society? Rex Tillerson, when is this the right time to talk about a mentally unstable president in the White House and a nuclear showdown with another unstable mad man in North Korea?”

Scarborough is likely referring to the 4th article of the 25th Amendment to the US Constitution, which reads:

“Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.”

The television host and former Republican Congressman has feuded with President Trump almost since the beginning of the 2016 presidential primaries.

On Wednesday, the President called on MSNBC to investigate Scarborough’s “unsolved mystery,” referring to the 2001 death of 28-year-old aide Lori  Klausutis.

Scarborough’s outburst on Wednesday may amount to little more than another jab in a now long-running public enmity.
