Matt Lauer has spoken, finally.

The revelation that NBC darling Matt Lauer had been a closet sexual harasser rocked the news cycle on Wednesday. As allegations quickly piled on throughout the day there was no word from the former ‘Today’ host who was promptly fired the same day.

After 24 hours of accusations, speculation and revelation Lauer finally made a statement:

“There are no words to express my sorrow and regret for the pain I have caused others by words and actions. To the people I have hurt, I am truly sorry. As I am writing this I realize the depth of the damage and disappointment I have left behind at home and at NBC. Some of what is being said about me is untrue or mischaracterized, but there is enough truth in these stories to make me feel embarrassed and ashamed. I regret that my shame is now shared by the people I cherish dearly. Repairing the damage will take a lot of time and soul searching and I’m committed to beginning that effort. It is now my full time job. The last two days have forced me to take a very hard look at my own troubling flaws. It’s been humbling. I am blessed to be surrounded by the people I love. I thank them for their patience and grace.”

Viewers and fans were shocked over what appeared to be credible evidence that Lauer has a serious problem, and old incriminating footage from previous shows and interviews surfaced throughout the day.

New accuser: Matt Lauer sexually assaulted me in his office until I passed out

Lauer’s statement is likely going to do little to quell the firestorm that only appears to be building. The unemployed show host’s “apology” comes just after a salacious new allegation surfaced that accuses Lauer of locking a female staffer in his office and assaulting her until she passed out.

Creepy videos like the one below obtained by TMZ are sweeping the internet. In the following footage, Lauer is seen leering at show host Meredith Viera (off screen) as she bends over to pick up notes.

“Nice sweater,” Lauer says out of the side of his mouth. “Keep bending over like this, it’s a nice view.”

The short incriminating clip took place during a commercial break, but one T.V. station had kept the cameras rolling and happened to catch Lauer “in the act.” The footage hadn’t been discovered until TMZ obtained a copy and only raises questions as to how many producers and network executives knew about Lauer’s seedy behavior.

No matter how “ashamed and embarrassed” Lauer may claim to feel, he’s not receiving a ton a sympathy on social media:
