In a move that’s shocking the world, NBC fired Today host Matt Lauer due to “inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace.”

Lauer’s co-anchor Savannah Guthrie was joined by Hoda Kotb to make the announcement on Wednesday morning’s edition of “Today.”

“This is a sad morning here at ‘Today’ and at NBC News,” Guthrie said.

She then read a note from NBC News chairman Andy Lack

“Dear colleges, on Monday night, we received a detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace by Matt Lauer. It represented, after serious review, a clear violation of our company’s standards. As a result, we’ve decided to terminate his employment.”

According to the statement, this was the first complaint NBC received of Lauer’s behavior “in the over twenty years he’s been at NBC News.” But it also read that the station had reason to believe “this may not have been an isolated incident.”

Lack went on to write:

” The company’s highest priority is to create a workplace environment where everyone feels safe and protected, and to ensure that any actions that run counter to our core values are met with consequences, no matter who the offender. We are deeply saddened by this turn of events.”

Lauer worked as co-host of “Today” since 1994–and was with NBC in other capacities before that. During his tenure, Lauer interviewed a number of prominent figures, including President Donald Trump, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and conservative pundit Ann Coulter.

Lauer’s firing comes a week after CBS and PBS dismissed news icon Charlie Rose due to multiple accusations of sexual harassment.

Other left-wing media personalities who have been fired over sexual harassment allegations include NPR News executive Mike Oreskes and Vox Media editorial director Lockhart Steele. Two high-level employees at Vice Media are also under scrutiny after sexual harassment claims.

President Trump was quick to weigh in on the situation, bringing the NBC chairman’s own past into question.
