Media fail to rig Alabama senate election race: Second poll shows Roy Moore with sizable lead in race

Alabama Republican Senate nominee Roy Moore is leading the polls against Democrat Doug Jones despite the seedy sexual misconduct allegations against him.

A poll conducted November 21 by Sky Research shows Moore leading Jones 46.7 percent to 39.6 percent among registered Alabama voters. Some 13.7 percent of voters were undecided.

The results are surprising since Moore’s campaign was recently rocked by allegations that he had hit on teenagers 40 years ago.

Moore vehemently denied that he hit on a 14-year-old girl in 1979, when he was 32. His attorneys claim the allegations are politically motivated.

One of the claims (that Moore had been banned from an Alabama mall for hitting on teens) was recently debunked. A former manager at the mall told WBRC Moore was never on that list.

Moore’s supporters noted that the bombshell accusations conveniently surfaced during the past three weeks — right before the Alabama special election, which is set for December 12. Moore is running against Democrat Doug Jones in the special election for the U.S. senate seat vacated by Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

President Donald Trump had supported Moore’s GOP opponent, Luther Strange, during the Alabama primary race.

In an open letter last week, Judge Moore said he had presided over the divorce proceedings of Beverly Nelson (one of his accusers) in 1999, and she never asked that he be recused. This undermines her credibility, Moore wrote:

“The most recent accuser, Beverly Nelson, was a party in a divorce action before me in Etowah County Circuit Court in 1999. No motion was made for me to recuse. In her accusations, Nelson did not mention that I was the judge assigned to her divorce case in 1999, a matter that apparently caused her no distress at a time that was 18 years closer to the alleged assault.

Yet 18 years later, while talking before the cameras about the supposed assault, she seemingly could not contain her emotions.”

Moore adamantly denied the accusations against him, and said he’s suing the media and his accusers for defamation. “I did not date underage girls, and have taken steps to begin a civil action for defamation,” he wrote.

Roy Moore supporters have slammed the curious timing of the allegations. They pointed out that the same Democrats who gave former president Bill Clinton numerous passes on his decades of alleged sexual assaults are now demanding that Moore immediately drop out on the basis of unproven allegations.

Many also noted that most Democrats are standing by Dem. Senator Al Franken and Congressman John Conyers despite recent, more credible, accusations of sexual harassment against them.

Roy Moore said he believes the media lynch mob against him is setting a dangerous precedent.

“When allegations of events occurring 40 years ago — and never before mentioned during a 40-year career of public service — are brought out and taken seriously only 30 days before a critical election, we may be in trouble as a country,” he wrote.
