Kellyanne Conway fires back after journalist asks why Trump tweeted about Franken, but not Moore

Kellyanne Conway set the record straight on President Trump’s perceived silence on the accusations against  Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore.

Critics have been looking at Trump’s lack of comment on the Republican candidate who has been accused of sexual misconduct with teenage women decades ago, with one accuser saying she was 14 years old at the time of the sexual encounter with Moore.

Trump slammed Sen. Al Franken in a tweet on Thursday after a woman alleged that the Minnesota Democrat had groped her and forcibly kissed her over a decade ago.

But the lack of tweets or remarks on Moore by the president had his critics complaining. On Friday, Conway was asked about it on Fox News.

“We haven’t heard a lot from the president,” host Sandra Smith asked the counselor to the president. “He is tweeting on Al Franken. He was asked about Roy Moore yesterday and he did not respond.”

Conway was quick to nip the finger-pointing.

“Al Franken was a new news story yesterday, and the president weighs in as he does on the news of the day,” she said.

“The Roy Moore story is eight days old, and the president put out a statement on his Asia trip on that,” Conway pointed out. “And since then, our press secretary has spoken on behalf of the president by saying that he believes the people of Alabama will sort out what to do with Roy Moore and with that election.”

Trump supported Moore’s Republican rival, Luther Strange in the Alabama GOP primary run-off,

A Fox News poll cited by Smith showed Moore trailing his Democratic rival, Doug Jones, in the Senate race with 42 percent of the votes. The Republican National Committee and National Republican Senatorial Committee have pulled funding of Moore’s campaign earlier this week.

On Thursday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced a Senate Ethics Committee probe into the allegations against Franken who issued his “sincerest apologies” and even and called for an ethics investigation into himself as a second accuser, a former radio host, also claimed she was “stalked and harassed” by Franken who “scared the living hell out of me.”
