Shep Smith defended HRC & Uranium One, then faced an ungodly Twitter storm the likes he’s never seen

Fox News’ Shepard Smith was at it again on Tuesday as he defended Hillary Clinton’s handling of Uranium One.

Smith played the role of Clinton advocate as he described a deal that sent 20 percent of the United States’ uranium to Russia.

“Here’s the accusation: nine people involved in the deal made donations to the Clinton Foundation totaling more than $140 million,” he said. “In exchange, Secretary of State Clinton approved the sale to the Russians – a quid pro quo.”

“The accusation, first made by Peter Schweizer, the senior editor-at-large of the website Breitbart, in his 2015 book, ‘Clinton Cash,’” Smith said. “The next year, candidate Donald Trump cited the accusation as an example of Clinton corruption.”

He then played a speech President Donald Trump made during the 2016 presidential campaign, and took issue with it.

“Hillary Clinton’s State Department approved the transfer of 20 percent of America’s uranium holdings to Russia, while nine investors in the deal funneled $145 million dollars to the Clinton Foundation,” President trump said at the time.

But Smith called it inaccurate in a number of ways.

“The Clinton State Department had no power to approve or veto that transaction. It could do neither,” he said.

Smith said that a nine person committee consisting of the heads of several federal agencies had to approve the deal and that only former President Obama had veto power.

Smith said that the man who donated the majority of the cash to the Clinton Foundation was a man named Frank Giustra, who sold his stake in Uranium One before Hillary Clinton became secretary of state.

“The accusation is predicated on the charge that Secretary Clinton approved the sale,” he said. “She did not. A committee of nine evaluated the sale, the president approved the sale, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and others had to offer permits, and none of the uranium was exported for use by the U.S. to Russia. That is Uranium One.”

Smith’s commentary came the day after it was reported that Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ Justice Department sent a letter to the House Judiciary Committee, informing it that the DOJ has appointed “senior federal prosecutors” to see if a special prosecutor is needed to investigate the deal.

Fox News fans were not happy with Smith’s championing of Clinton and called for his head.
