CNN contributor practically ‘libels’ GOP governor’s candidate as ‘white supremacist’

So much for CNN’s “Facts First” ad campaign featuring an apple.

CNN contributor and former Hillary Clinton spokesman Brian Fallon likened Virginia Republican gubernatorial nominee Ed Gillespie to a neo-Nazi.

This is an irresponsible hit the Gillespie campaign quickly denounced as an “ugly character smear.”

Fallon tweeted a photograph of the white nationalist rally in Charlottesville in August, along with the caption: “Live look at Ed Gillespie campaign strategy meeting.”

Turns out, Fallon was just furthering the Democratic cliche of labeling anyone who disagrees with them as a racist.

The Virginia Democratic Party funded a mailer in support of Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam, the party’s nominee for governor,  featuring images of Gillespie and President Donald Trump superimposed over a photo of the tiki torch carrying white nationalist marchers.

“On Tuesday, November 7th, Virginia gets to stand up to hate,” the mailer reads.

David Abrams, a spokesman for Gillespie’s campaign, responded to the line of attack in a statement to Fox News.

“Northam, the entire Democratic ticket and CNN should condemn this ugly character smear that has no place in our Commonwealth’s political discourse,” Gillespie said.

But Fallon, a liberal ideologue to the bitter end, doubling down on his sad tweet while referencing ads run by Gillespie that accused Northam of being soft on MS-13, violent felons and sex offenders.

“Ed Gillespie should be ashamed of the ads he is running in this campaign,” Fallon countered in an email to Fox News. “This is a vile and pathetic attempt to appeal to the Bannon wing of Donald Trump’s Republican party.”

And while the Democratic Party eagerly embraces the rancor on display from Fallon, the reaction on social media against such behavior was fierce.

Here’s a sampling of responses on Twitter from some of the nation’s leading political commentators:

The Democratic attack machine has been dining out on calling all of its opponents ‘racists’ since the 1970s. Unfortunately for America, the party appears to be willing to do or say anything in order to win, no matter how ludicrous and deceptive it is.
