NYT columnist single-handedly strips Gen Kelly of his ‘moral authority’ and decides America is in crisis

The anti-Trump media have plenty of chutzpah when it comes to pressing home a narrative that they believe will be damaging to President Donald Trump.

The latest example of this is the effort to discredit White House chief of staff John Kelly after an emotional dressing down of U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson for exploiting a “sacred” call President Trump made to the widow of Army Sgt. La David Johnson, one of four Green Berets killed in Niger.

To distract from his poignant message, New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman  jumped on Kelly misconstruing comments the Florida Democrat made in 2015 during the dedication of a FBI field office.

Friedman first declared that Trump had lost all moral authority, before claiming that Kelly, a Gold Star father whose son died in Afghanistan in service to his country, has also lost his moral authority.

…as if the left is the arbiter that sets the standard.

“Unfortunately, General Kelly, by saying things that were provably false about that congresswoman, really lost, I think, a lot of his moral authority,” Friedman told “Meet The Press” host Chuck Todd on Sunday.

“And now we have a situation where the White House spokeswoman had to invoke his formal authority –– that he was a four-star Marine general –– to basically shut up the press. And I think that’s the tragedy here.”

Not only does the liberal media get to decide the standards of moral authority, they also grant themselves the right to determine when America is in crisis — never mind that the real tragedy here is the bloodlust the press shows daily toward the president of the United States.

“Like, everyone has lost their moral authority, The Times columnist continued. “And I think that’s a real crisis for the country. Because when we’re in a real crisis, and we need to trust General Kelly and the President, I think something’s been lost here.”

Does he take the American people for idiots? You may be better off not answering that question.
