San Juan Mayor FUMES over Trump’s warning. Meanwhile, FBI looks at lags in Puerto Rico’s relief efforts

As is often the case, when President Donald Trump comments on an issue, there’s a method to his perceived madness that the hyperventilating anti-Trump media is too blind to see.

Take hurricane relief efforts in Puerto Rico, which are now being looked at by the FBI, as an example.

Trump tweeted on Thursday about a looming financial crisis on the island, pressuring officials there to get their act together.

“We cannot keep FEMA, the Military & the First Responders, who have been amazing (under the most difficult circumstances) in P.R. forever!” he said.

The warning comes after The Daily Caller reported Wednesday that the FBI’s looking into charges from residents that local officials in the territory have been withholding FEMA supplies.

“People call us and tell us some misappropriation of some goods and supplies by supposedly politicians, not necessarily mayors, but people that work for the mayors in certain towns,” FBI Special Agent Carlos Osorio told The Daily Caller Wednesday.

In effect, relief supplies are being used as political payoffs.

Osario said officials are “supposedly withholding these goods and these supplies and instead of handing them out to people who really need them,” they’re “assigning them to their buddies first – people that have voted for them or people that contributed to their campaigns or what not.”

The special agent stopped short of calling it an “investigation.”

“So what we’re doing is looking into these allegations,” he explained. “That I can tell you is happening. Again, I cannot say that we have any ongoing investigation. We’re just corroborating these allegations.”

The U.S. federal prosecutor on the island, Rosa Emilia Rodriguez, said “anyone who is withholding supplies is in violation of federal and state law,” The DC reported.

…and she’s ready to prosecute.

Embattled San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz took time out from printing t-shirts by candlelight to respond to the president’s reminder that there are limits to the federal government’s relief efforts.

Knowing she has the ear of the media, Cruz continued her political theatrics, issuing a statement saying “we WILL NOT BE LEFT TO DIE.”

This coming from a woman who was called out face-to-face by Geraldo Rivera over earlier claims of people dying.

Sounding more like a CNN commentator than an elected official, the mayor also took to Twitter to rip Trump, saying his “comments about Puerto Rico are unbecoming of a Commander-in-Chief they seem more to come from a ‘Hater in Chief.'”
