Liberal icon Valerie Plame defended herself then backtracked on her tweet linking to an anti-Semitic article that blamed “America’s Jews” for U.S. wars in the Middle East.
The former CIA agent, who became a Democrat and Hollywood darling after a 2003 agency leak dubbed “the Plame Affair” during the Bush administration, tweeted linking to an article Thursday from the anti-Israel website “UNZ Review,” titled, “America’s Jews Are Driving America’s Wars.”

Adding insult to injury, the tweet was posted on the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah.
Wishing Valerie Plame a sweet new year — l’shana tovah! By the way, the day of atonement is just around the corner.
— John Schwartz (@jswatz) September 21, 2017
Why the hell would you retweet this drivel? On #RoshHashana none the less. Do you really believe this?
— (((Daniel Bear))) (@ProfDanBear) September 21, 2017
And she tweeted that out on #RoshHashanah of all days…
— Koppany B. Jordan (@Koppany_Jordan) September 21, 2017
Twitter users immediately called Plame out on the article, which argued that American Jews have an interest in promoting Israel and should not only recuse themselves from any dealings with the Middle East, but should also be labeled.
By the way: the article ValeriePlame shared recommends that American Jews on TV be forced to identity themselves by their Jewishness.? 12/ pic.twitter.com/DAvbqZgL5N

More than raising a few eyebrows, Plame’s tweet unleashed a torrent of criticism, prompting questions about when Democrats and liberals would condemn her, much the same way they love to accuse President Trump of being anti-Semitic.
Recall: Democrats made Valerie Plame and Joseph Wilson “antiwar” heroes and martyrs. https://t.co/rQZhbDAg5U https://t.co/AUEmmEO6in

.@ValeriePlame is hero of Hollywood & the Left. Every Dem who praised her must be asked about her anti-Semitism now. 1/

They need to be asked if they disavow Plame. #ThingsThatWillNeverHappen
— Cthulhu Approves (@CTHULHUApproves) September 21, 2017
Will anyone except a few Twitter users call her out for anti-Semitism?
— susan mathewson (@masuruha2) September 21, 2017
Give yourselves a hand, Leftists / Hollywood / Dems / media (but I repeat myself). Your hero ValeriePlame is a grifter & an anti-Semite. 11/

Wilson doubled down, yelling at critics to “calm down” and excusing herself with the argument that “retweets don’t equal endorsements.” Never mind that her post wasn’t a retweet since she linked to it without explanation.
1) First of all, calm down. Re-tweets don’t imply endorsement. Yes, very provocative, but thoughtful. Many neocon hawks ARE Jewish. https://t.co/m5oGgKPo2a
— Valerie Plame Wilson (@ValeriePlame) September 21, 2017
2) Just FYI, I am of Jewish decent. I am not in favor of war with Iran, or getting out of the Iran nuclear treaty. There are simply https://t.co/AR3Jsl1yml
— Valerie Plame Wilson (@ValeriePlame) September 21, 2017
3) too many who are so ready to go to war. Haven’t we had enough for awhile?
4) Read the entire article and try, just for a moment, to https://t.co/wyd3uJ06nt— Valerie Plame Wilson (@ValeriePlame) September 21, 2017
put aside your biases and think clearly. https://t.co/dHsVF8ZCH6

Liberal CNN journo Jake Tapper offered two words seemingly stunned by her excuses.
Holy crap https://t.co/YmStNSx6lc
— Jake Tapper (@jaketapper) September 21, 2017
After the heated backlash did not subside, Plame backed off and said she had not thoroughly read the article:
OK folks, look, I messed up. I skimmed this piece, zeroed in on the neocon criticism, and shared it without seeing and considering the rest.
— Valerie Plame Wilson (@ValeriePlame) September 21, 2017
I missed gross undercurrents to this article & didn’t do my homework on the platform this piece came from. Now that I see it, it’s obvious.
— Valerie Plame Wilson (@ValeriePlame) September 21, 2017
Apologies all. There is so much there that’s problematic AF and I should have recognized it sooner. Thank you for pushing me to look again.
— Valerie Plame Wilson (@ValeriePlame) September 21, 2017
I’m not perfect and make mistakes. This was a doozy. All I can do is admit them, try to be better, and read more thoroughly next time. Ugh.
— Valerie Plame Wilson (@ValeriePlame) September 21, 2017
Of course, this coming from the same woman who previously praised the author, Philip Giraldi and had tweeted one of his articles from 2014 criticising Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Well put, Mr. Giraldi: Why I Still Dislike Israel http://t.co/8fxErjzAij

Wilson made headlines last month when she announced she had started a GoFundMe page in order to buy a controlling interest in Twitter and then delete President Trump’s account.
Despite her efforts to douse the fire she began with her tweet Thursday, Wilson was summarily roasted by an apparently bipartisan bunch of Twitter users.

Good lord. She’s lost it. Whatever point she thought she was trying to make is toast. Legacy blown up.

Valerie Plame sounds awfully anti-semitic.. pic.twitter.com/MBbrcOWuMe
— Nick Short ?? (@PoliticalShort) September 21, 2017
Nope. Not hacked. But also not “the Left.” This is just plain old anti-Semitic stereotyping and projection. Vile and disappointing.
— Joe’s O’s (@Joes0s) September 21, 2017
So you’re friends with anti-semites huh? https://t.co/ADwdUU8erT

Please tell me you were hacked or meant to quote tweet this anti-Semitic garbage with criticism.
