‘In good taste?’ Fla supermarket Publix gets kudos for these cool Hurricane Irma-themed cakes

Florida supermarket Publix is taking lemons and making… hurricane themed cakes?

The popular employee-owned supermarket chain was all the rage online this week when a shopper at a Publix supermarket in Plantation, took a photo of a themed cake on display named after the monster storm “Irma-gheddon” bearing down on Florida.

Miami radio personality Andy Slater shared the photo on Twitter with the caption: “In good taste?”

Nothing wrong with trying to spread a little sunshine in the face of a Category 5 hurricane, is there?

Not that the company doesn’t take seriously it’s responsibility to the public in trying times like this, as noted in a statement on Facebook.

“Our associates, customers and communities are part of our Publix family, and we value our relationships,” the statement said. “You count on us to support you to the best of our abilities during stressful times.”

Turns out, according to social media users, the cake above wasn’t the only hurricane themed cake seen at a Publix, as bakers put their creative juices to work.

As to whether the cakes are in good taste or not, the jury is in and the verdict is favorable to Publix.
