Even seasoned Russian pranksters can’t stop a duped Rick Perry from praising President Trump

Talk about making lemonade out of… pig manure?

Energy Secretary Rick Perry was the victim of a prank call that would devolve into a discussion of pig manure as an energy source, but to the surprise of many, Perry came out smelling like a rose.

Perry was having a phone conversation on energy policy with who he thought was Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysma, but it turned out a to be a couple of Russian pranksters, according to The Washington Post.

In Perry’s defense, this duo has a history of pulling of high level pranks, once duping Elton John into thinking he was speaking with Russian President Vladimir Putin, The Post reported.

But the secretary still managed to score a victory by effectively explaining President Donald Trump’s decision to pull out of the The Paris Climate Accord.

“Our position is that it’s our record that should be looked at, not whether or not we have signed onto some international accord,” Perry explained. “We see our record of progress relative to the global environment to be substantially defensible.”

To their credit, DOE Spokeswoman Shaylyn Hynes owned up to the prank with The Post.

“Secretary Perry is the latest target of two Russian pranksters,” she admitted. “These individuals are known for pranking high level officials and celebrities, particularly those who are supportive of an agenda that is not in line with their governments. In this case, the energy security of Ukraine.”
