Walmart scrambles after website uses the N word – yes, the real one – to describe product color

Walmart is red-faced after being caught red-handed with a racist product description on its website.

And now the company is apologizing for the embarrassing faux pas.

The offending product, a netting weave cap which has been removed, was described by the third-party company selling on the store’s website, as “N***er brown.”

“While we aim to provide accurate product information, it is provided by manufacturers, suppliers and others, and has not been verified by us,” a disclaimer on the page read.

Sports journalist Kwani Lunis discovered the item, and its offensive description, and alerted Walmart via tweet.

“Hey @Walmart what are you doing,” she asked with a screenshot of the product, followed by tweets of the description and a link to the item, on Monday.

The retail giant quickly removed the item and issued a statement of apology.

“We are very sorry and appalled that this third-party seller listed their item with this description on our online marketplace,” Danit Marquardt, a Walmart spokeswoman, said. “It is a clear violation of our policy, and has been removed, and we are investigating the seller to determine how this could have happened.”
