A female New York Police Department officer was assassinated as she sat in her car on Wednesday.
The slain officer was identified as Miosotis Familia, 48, a 12-year-veteran of the force.
Her alleged killer, Alexander Bonds, was killed in a confrontation with police, WPIX reported.
Officer Familia was sitting in her car with her partner when Bonds, who was on paroled for a robbery, walked out of a Bodega in the Bronx and shot her for no discernible reason.
Her partner radioed for help and a sergeant and uniformed officer confronted the suspect around a block from the shooting.
A bystander was hit in the confrontation and transported to the hospital, according to WPIX.

“We are conducting an extensive search for video at this time,” NYPD Police Commissioner James P. O’Neill said at a press conference. “Based off what we know right now, it’s clear this was an unprovoked attack on a police officer who are assigned to keep the people of this great city safe.”

“She was on duty, serving this city protecting people, doing what she believed in and the job she loved,” New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said. “After this shocking and sudden attack, her fellow officers came to her aid immediately.”
According to ABC New York, Bonds was previously arrested for attacking an officer with brass knuckles.
The slain officer was a mother of three.
