Superstar gives surprise shout out to Scalise, sets example for divisive haters after Alexandria shooting

Iconic rock band U2 paused a concert on Tuesday as lead singer Bono paid tribute to Rep. Steve Scalise and the other victims of last week’s GOP shooting.

“You’ve been through some troubling days with the shooting in Alexandria,” Bono said during a moment in the Maryland performance. “We are so grateful that Congressman Scalise and his comrades made it through. So grateful. We hold them up as love holds us all up.”

The Irish rocker’s gesture was appreciated by the recovering congressman’s team as the video was shared on Scalise’s Twitter account with a note of thanks.

The concert was held in Hyattsville, less than 20 miles from Alexandria, VA where the House Republican Whip and others were targeted and shot in a premeditated attack while practicing for a baseball game last week.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz was apparently at the same concert but did not mention Bono’s comments.

Concert goers cheered Bono’s shout out to the victims and mentioned his comments welcoming all to the performance, regardless of political background.

Others in Hollywood and the media would do well to note Bono’s uplifting and inclusive words. Liberals wasted no time after the shooting to sound the alarm for gun control legislation and even to blame the congressman himself.

MSNBC’s Joy Reid resorted to race-baiting and slammed Scalise‘s voting record while out-going CBS anchor Scott Pelley wondered out loud if the congressman’s injuries were “to some degree, self-inflicted.”

Liberal journalists scrambled to find a way to negatively spin even a touching hospital bedside visit by President Trump to the critically injured Scalise. Democratic strategist James Devine tastelessly responded to the shooting by tweeting the new hashtag “#HuntRepublicanCongressmen.”

Meanwhile, U2’s frontman continued to display what class looks like as he met with Scalise’s staff on a visit to Capitol Hill on Wednesday.

Bono signed get well cards for Scalise who remains hospitalized as his condition continues to improve.

“Just like Bono, we wish Rep. @SteveScalise a speedy recovery. #TeamScalise,” the singer’s non-profit ONE campaign tweeted.
