Debbie Wasserman Schultz directly contradicts former DHS chief’s testimony on DNC hack

Debbie Wasserman Schultz contends she was never contacted by government agencies about alleged DNC computer hacking, a claim that directly contradicts testimony by former DHS chief, Jeh Johnson.

The statement by the former chair of the Democratic National Committee on Wednesday appeared to contrast with remarks made by the former Homeland Security Secretary.

“At no point during my tenure at the DNC did anyone from the FBI or any other government agency contact or communicate with me about Russian intrusion on the DNC network. It is astounding to me that the chair of an organization like the DNC was never contacted by the FBI or any other agency concerned about these intrusions,” Wasserman Schultz said, according to the Washington Examiner.

“As a member of Congress, I had the unique clearance to hear any classified briefing that would be involved in such an intrusion, and the FBI clearly should have come to me with that information. They did not,” she said.

Appearing before the House Intelligence Committee on Wednesday, Johnson testified that the DNC refused his agency’s help when it was approached about hacking that had allegedly occurred. The DNC decided to use a private cybersecurity firm instead, Johnson said he was told by the FBI.

The Florida congresswoman has a different take on the story, however, declaring she would have taken up the offer for assistance.

“If the FBI or any other government agency ever came to me with that information, I would have gladly welcomed their help,” she said in a statement.

“In fact, back in March, former FBI Director Jim Comey testified that he wished he had personally done more to notify the DNC of the Russian intrusion,” she added.
