Russian President Vladimir Putin “handled” Megyn Kelly with ease in her debut NBC News interview that aired on Sunday.
Kelly confronted Putin with questions about his country’s alleged involvement in the 2016 United States presidential election and the allegations that Russia has compromising information on President Donald Trump.
The Russian leader was angered when Kelly asked him about alleged meeting his ambassador Sergey Kislyak met with members of the Trump transition team, including setting up a back channel for communications with Jared Kushner.
“There were no meetings. I — you understand? There were no meetings,” he said. “When I saw this, my jaw dropped.”
But Kelly pressed “No meetings between Ambassador Kislyak and anybody from the Trump campaign?”

“I have no idea,” he replied, growing visibly angrier. “I’m being completely honest with you. I don’t know. The routine job of an ambassador — do you think that from all over the world or from the United States, the ambassador reports to me every day who he meets with or what they discuss there?”
“That’s complete nonsense. Do you even understand what you’re asking or not?” he continued.
“Listen, his boss is the Minister of Foreign Affairs,” he said. “Do you think that I have time to talk to our ambassadors every day? All over the world? Complete nonsense.”
Putin said he had no knowledge of any meetings between his ambassador and Kushner saying “Had there been anything significant, he would have reported it to the minister. The minister would have reported it to me. There weren’t even any reports. There’s nothing to even talk about.”
The Russian leader accused the American media of creating the entire controversy about his country interfering in the U.S. election to use it as a weapon against President Donald Trump.
“For me, this is just amazing. You created a sensation out of nothing,” he said. “And out of this sensation, you turned it into a weapon of war against the current president. Well, this is, you know, you’re just, you people are so creative over there. Good job. Your lives must be boring.”
During one part of the interview Putin asked those watching “does someone have a pill” to help Kelly with her “hysteria.”
Putin was equally abrasive when Kelly asked if his government had compromising information on President Trump, referring to an alleged dossier that was collected prior to the election.
“Why, did we have some special relationship with him?” he asked Kelly. “We didn’t have any relationship at all. There was a time when he used to come to Moscow. But you know, I never met with him. We have a lot of Americans who visit us.”
“Right now, I think we have representatives from a hundred American companies that have come to Russia,” he continued. “Do you think we’re gathering compromising information on all of them right now or something? Have you all lost your senses over there?”
But that’s not how NBC News spun it in a promo for the interview on Twitter.
“EXCLUSIVE: Putin does not deny having compromising information on President Trump in interview with @megynkelly,” it wrote in a tweet.
The exact opposite of what was said and, subsequently, the network was forced to delete the tweet and issue a correction.

A pretty big mistake that buoys the president’s claims of “fake news.”
That’s a pretty massive correction…

It’s called a lie. They knew every detail of the interview prior to airing it. This was deliberate.

But most of the activity on social media centered around how Putin owned Kelly for the entire interview.
Megyn: “But the IP addresses”
Putin: “IP addresses can be invented. A child can do that! Your underage daughter could do that. Not proof”
