CNN finally terminates Kathy Griffin … after ridiculous headline, disappearing video

This is CNN.

Both Kathy Griffin and CNN appear to be in damage control after she posed for a photo holding the bloodied head of President Donald Trump, Islamic State-style.

After almost a day of riding the fence, the network finally said in a statement on Wednesday, “CNN has terminated our agreement with Kathy Griffin to appear on our New Year’s Eve program.”

Griffin has co-hosted the New Year’s Eve show since 2007, according to the New York Post.

She’s just the latest in a long list of celebrities who’ve publicly wished the commander-in-chief’s death, including Madonna, Snoop Dogg and Charlie Sheen to name a few.

But none topped Griffin’s stunt, which syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer described as “political pornography from a D-list comedienne.”

The intense backlash apparently took CNN by surprise. It originally downplayed the story under the headline, “Kathy Griffin draws ire over anti-Trump photo.” An Internet search would give this result:

But the fine print indicates, “This video is no longer available. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

Well, it may no longer be available on CNN, but the Internet, as they say, never forgets.

Here’s CNN’s Jake Tapper’s report on the scandal.

After Tapper referred to the Griffin photo as “a little bit graphic,” panelist Molly Ball used the occasion to bash Donald Trump Jr. for criticizing the photo.

“I mean have a hard time bringing myself to care about something like this,” The Atlantic writer said. “I think it just speaks to the need to see themselves as a victim that they have, that they are constantly being persecuted.”

CNN contributor David Urban also thought the Griffin photo non-newsworthy.

“I think we’ve got much bigger issues to focus on than Kathy Griffin,” he said.

But the fact remains, Griffin still has a running New Year’s Eve gig with CNN, which Tapper admitted at the beginning of the segment.

Compare her employment with CNN to an event four years ago when a clown was fired for life because he wore an Obama mask at the Missouri State Fair rodeo. Social media didn’t forget that one.

Griffin eventually offered an apology — possibly in an effort to keep her New Year’s Eve gig. But one person offered an elegant solution to the mess CNN found itself in.

And what of the aggrieved party? Trump neither called for Griffin to be fired nor CNN to lose its press credentials. He merely said that she should be “ashamed of herself.”
