Man armed with only a bow records terrifying moment he’s charged and attacked by a black bear

A Ontario hunter had a terrifying encounter with a black bear and captured the exact moment he was attacked on video.

…and lived to tell about it!

Richard Wesley was hunting when he came across a large bear about 100 feet away, according to the Daily Mail.

As the bear suddenly came at him, Wesley tried to scare it off by making a loud noise, but that effort proved to be fruitless.

The bear continued to charge at Wesley as he backpedaled, and when the animal got close enough, it makes “a terrifying leap,” as described by The Mail.

Fortunately, Wesley was able to deflect the bear’s mouth with his bow, but he falls to the ground — and while he dropped his camera, it continued to record.

Approximately 12 seconds later, Wesley picked up his camera and runs away — it’s not clear what became of the bear.

“I should have shot a long time ago,” he can be heard saying into the camera, although it was difficult to tell if the arrow in the bow had been released.

Wesley offered a little commentary on the attack in the video description.

“I am so happy after this confrontation with a black bear during our spring hunt,” Wesley wrote. “No wounds except a bruised elbow and ego where the bear threw me down.”

“Genuinely happy that this was a non fatal or tragic outcome,” he added. “Proving that the black bear is a wild and unpredictable animal. Again so happy with the outcome.”
