Teacher gets into a vicious brawl with her aide in front of horrified students

A Georgia teacher and a teaching assistant were arrested after breaking out into a vicious brawl in a classroom full of students.

Shocking video taken in a class at Stone Mountain Middle School showed two women lurch into a physical attack on one another, slapping each other around the head and pushing into a whiteboard as horrified teens looked on, WSB-TV reported.

While school officials are investigating what happened, video showed some students trying to stop the fight as other could be heard screaming. Eventually, another adult staff member arrived and broke the two up.

Parents were understandably upset by the incident at the school on the outskirts of Atlanta.

“I mean that’s not a good example in front of kids. That was just bad. It was just bad,” parent Valerie Stewart told WSB-TV. “We send our kids to school to learn, for an education, not to sit there and witness a fight between two adults.”

Student Madison Hall was equally shocked.

“I really couldn’t believe it. Like I thought it was kids fighting and then found out it was teachers. It was just bad,”  she said.

A letter sent home to parents on Monday by the school explained that two staff members were “engaged in a physical altercation that caused a major disturbance in a classroom.” The letter stated that the two school employees would face appropriate discipline.

The two women were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct in a public place, officials told WSB-TV. However, they were not fired because, as the school is a public entity, they can remain employed by the school district pending the outcome of the investigation.

“I really didn’t know that, but to find out today, that’s unacceptable,” Stewart said, reacting to the rule.

In a statement, the school district described as “unacceptable” the behavior of the staff members.

“The interaction and conduct in the video is completely unacceptable and contrary to our district’s tenets and core principles,” Andre Riley of Dekalb County Schools said in the statement. “Those staff members that participated in the conduct have been removed from the learning environment.”
