Not only does the daily Trump ‘bombshell’ fizzle after a dramatic build-up, it’s relentlessly mocked

Finally, a source with a name.

The New York Times tried and failed and breaking the story of the week on Thursday.

The news was built-up by tweets from the story’s source, Benjamin Wittes, a frequent critic of President Donald Trump and a close friend of former FBI Director James Comey.

Others got excited for what the big reveal might be.

Perhaps it might break this case open like the Watergate type scandal Democrats are praying it is.\

Get set. This is the big story.

There it is. The big reveal.

What most people took from the “bombshell” was that Comey supposedly tried to blend in with the White House curtains when he was at a WH ceremony with President Trump. The clip below is reported to be the exchange that took place.

“The ceremony occurred in the Blue Room of the White House, where many senior law enforcement officials — including the Secret Service director — had gathered. Mr. Comey — who is 6 feet 8 inches tall and was wearing a dark blue suit that day – told Mr. Wittes that he tried to blend in with the blue curtains in the back of the room, in the hopes that Mr. Trump would not spot him and call him out,” the Times wrote.

“He thought he had gotten through and not been noticed or singled out and that he was going to get away without an individual interaction,” Wittes said he was told by the former FBI Director whom he studied with at The Brookings Institute.

But the president spotted Comey and called to him for a handshake.

“Comey said that as he was walking across the room he was determined that there wasn’t going to be a hug,” Wittes told the Times. “It was bad enough there was going to be a handshake. And Comey has long arms so Comey said he pre-emptively reached out for a handshake and grabbed the president’s hand. But Trump pulled him into an embrace and Comey didn’t reciprocate. If you look at the video, it’s one person shaking hands and another hugging.”

Blockbuster.

Just like other blockbusters that busted this week, not many were impressed.
