The White House announced that President Trump fired the chief usher Angella Reid, the first woman and second African-American to hold the position.
And it didn’t take long for the cries of racism to start on social media.
“She is no longer employed here at the White House,” Deputy White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters on Friday. “We left on very good terms and wish her the very best and certainly hope for great things for her in the future. However, it’s not uncommon you might have a transition of staff when a new administration comes in. It’s nothing more than that.”
The position involves working with the first family on things such as decor and furnishings as well as handling maids, chefs, butlers, florists, electricians and personal and administrative duties, according to the Washington Post.
Reid was close with the Obamas, who hired her for the position, the Post said, but she had been known, according to reports, to be overly bossy with the staff.
“For the staff, she was a little tough on them because they could be freewheeling,” a former staffer told the Post.
Reid was not forthcoming on a reason for her dismissal when reached for comment.
“I think it’s best if the White House explains,” she said.
But, as comedian Wanda Sykes did when she blamed racism for the repeal of Obamacare, it is much easier for liberals to point to race as the reason when they don’t know the answer.
