Pepsi ad wasn’t just cringeworthy, it may have crossed legal lines, say San Fran cops

It’s been a tough week for Pepsi.

The company, which pulled an ad featuring Kendall Jenner earlier this week after it found itself at the receiving end of scorching backlash, is now in trouble with the police.

Specifically, the San Francisco Police Department, which claims it never gave Pepsi permission to copy their uniforms, TMZ reported.

The police department is working with a government attorney to determine if legal lines were crossed by the producers of the ad for using a logo they consider proprietary, according to TMZ.

The video ad featured Jenner leaving a photo shoot to join protesters and then breaking the tension by handing a Pepsi to a police officer.

The police in the video sported uniforms with sleeves featuring an emblem stating, “San Francisco Police.” An eagle spreading its wings is also part of the emblem image, which the San Francisco Police Department claims is strikingly similar to their real uniforms.

“It’s not 100 percent identical but it appears to be our patch,”  SFPD spokesperson Officer Robert Rueca told KGO-TV. The logo only appeared in the behind-the-scenes version of the video, not in the ad that was aired.

“After our understanding that this occurred, we are investigating the matter,” Rueca said.
