Speaker at mosque calls for the murder of Jews in sermon, police are ‘still deciding’ if it’s hate speech

An Imam from Montreal sparked complaints after calling for the killing of Jews.

The sermon at the Dar Al-Arqam Mosque in the Saint-Michel neighborhood of Montreal was given on Dec. 23, 2016 and has drawn criticism from others in the Muslim community, CBC reported.

The Imam was Jordanian cleric Sheikh Muhammad bin Musa Al Nasr, who was invited as a guest speaker to the mosque, who posted the video to its YouTube channel.

The Imam called Jewish people “the most evil of mankind” and “human demons,” before he quoted directly from a hadith, which is an interpretation of the words and actions of the Muslim Prophet Muhammad.

At “the end of time… the stone and the tree will say: ‘Oh Muslim, oh servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me – come and kill him!’” he said.

Pro-Jewish group B’nai Brith Canada spoke out against the hate speech.

This is inciting violence, and this is inciting radicalization,” B’nai Brith Quebec regional director Harvey Levine told the CBC.

“It’s against the law and has to be stopped,” Levine said, noting that a report was filed with the Montreal police.

Unlike in the United States, Canada does have “hate speech” laws.

And B’nai Brith said this is hardly the first such incident of anti-Semitism coming from the Muslim community.

“It’s been 42 days since we filed a complaint about the last imam to promote such hatred, and Montreal police are still deciding whether calling on Allah to ‘destroy the accursed Jews’ is hate speech,” B’nai Brith Canada CEO Michael Mostyn said on the group’s website. “When will Canada finally recognize that we are not immune to racism and antisemitism and that it is this type of rhetoric that directly leads to radicalization all over the world?”
