Senator Rand Paul took a shot at President Donald Trump and Republican leadership Tuesday over the GOP bill to “repeal and replace” Obamacare.
Paul appeared on CNN’s “Erin Burnett OutFront” Tuesday afternoon to speak about the House vote Thursday on the American Health Care Act. Burnett described how 26 House Republicans have publicly said they will vote no or are leaning towards voting against the bill as it stands. As it stands, House Republicans can only lose 21 GOP votes, assuming every House Democrat votes against it.

The senator said there is “no” chance the bill makes it out of the House. Paul thinks current rumors are actually downplaying the amount of Republican dissent, particularly among conservative members. “I think we have 30 to 35 no votes in the House,” Paul said. “I think either the House leadership will put it forward and lose, or they will begin counting the votes very closely and decide not to put it forward.”
Whatever course Ryan and House leadership take, Paul thinks the end result will be the same: it will not pass. At that point, “conservatives will have,” through voicing their concerns and voting against the bill, “earned a seat at the table.” Once conservatives are included in the conversation, “the real negotiations begin.”
When conservatives take a stand and vote no, “we show them (Trump and Ryan) they don’t have the votes to pass their Obamacare Lite bill.”
