**This post has been updated to show Brzezinski’s response.
Trump derangement syndrome is having a strange effect on members of the media.
The mainstream press is clearly tormented over Donald Trump’s complete and total lack of respect for their integrity, abilities, and laughable objectivity. But at the root of all the animosity towards the president likely lies the fact that Trump, taking the bully pulpit to an entirely new level, has been able to completely co-opt the press and appeal directly to the American people.
But but, says MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski, who might have just let the cat out of the bag on what many in the media believe their job to be, it’s “our job” to tell people “exactly what people think.” The co-host is worried that people might, gasp, start trusting Trump over the media if the economy goes south.
Here’s the eye-popping exchange on today’s Morning Joe:
“Exactly. That is exactly what I hear,” said co-host Joe Scarborough. “What Yamiche said is what I hear from all the Trump supporters that I talk to who were Trump voters and are still Trump supporters. They go, ‘Yeah you guys are going crazy. He’s doing — what are you so surprised about? He is doing exactly what he said he is going to do.'”
“Well, I think that the dangerous,” Brzezinski replied, “you know, edges here are that he is trying to undermine the media and trying to make up his own facts. And it could be that while unemployment and the economy worsens, he could have undermined the messaging so much that he can actually control exactly what people think. And that, that is our job.”

Oh the horror, the American people listening to somebody else besides the Anointed Media.
Instead of looking at her like she had three eyes, the co-panelists proceeded to compare Trump with Lenin and Mussolini, then call for legalizing illegal immigration, Grabien News reported.
“It’s the — it’s the ground noise that he is throwing out there also, whether he is questioning, Mark, the legitimacy of federal judges to do what they have done since Marbury v. Madison,” Scarborough said. “It’s when he says the media is the, quote … ‘enemy of the people’, where he sounds like Mussolini or Lenin which obviously causes concern that phrase right there makes him sound more like a dictator in training, when he sends Stephen Miller out and says, basically the president has absolute power, he shall not be questioned.”
On immigration, Scarborough criticized what he considered Trump’s “blind spot” on the issue. “We have an economy, let’s face it, we have an economy that is built on illegal immigration. We have an economy that is built on that. That is why I say why don’t you just legalize it?”
Update:
Later in the day, Brzezinski responded to the uproar with the following tweets:
Today I said it's the media's job to keep President Trump from making up his own facts, NOT that it's our job to control what people think.

Of course, that is obvious from the transcript but some people want to make up their own facts. SAD! https://t.co/AoK2NBR6OB
