Kellyanne Conway gave a firm “no” when asked if she could have saved Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s failed presidential campaign.

Conway, a counselor to the president, responded to whether Clinton would have won if she had been Clinton’s campaign manger in an interview with The Washington Post.

Being Clinton’s campaign manager wouldn’t have helped, Conway said. Clinton would not have won the 2016 election because many Americans did not trust her, Conway explained.

“One is she could never really escape the fact that, including according to … polling, that persistent, nagging majorities of Americans find her to be dishonest and untrustworthy and didn’t particularly like her, either,” Conway told The Washington Post.

Another reason why Clinton couldn’t win is because the people around her were unable to tell her “no.”

“Two, it’s not clear to me that this woman who has surrounded herself with talented professionals — I’m very fond of Robby Mook, her campaign manager, for example, and I have a cordial relationship with Huma Abedin — had ever surrounded herself with people who would actually tell her no. Or that this isn’t a good idea. Or that this isn’t working. Which every leader needs,” Conway went on.

Conway emphasized that America wasn’t against voting for a woman in general and were specifically opposed to voting for “this woman,” i.e. Hillary Clinton.

President Donald Trump garnered 304 electoral votes, while Clinton received 227.
