Lady Gaga’s free to talk Trump at Superbowl show: NFL denies ‘unsourced nonsense’ that they told her not to

The National Football League has issued a denial of reports that it asked Lady Gaga not to mention Donald Trump or politics during her halftime performance at February’s Super Bowl LI.

“This is unsourced nonsense from people trying to stir up controversy where there is none,” a spokesperson for the NFL told The Wrap. “The Super Bowl is a time when people really come together. Lady Gaga is focused on putting together an amazing show for fans and we love working with her on it; we aren’t going to be distracted by this.”

The statement came in response to a report from Entertainment Tonight on Tuesday that said “Lady Gaga was told by the NFL that she cannot say anything or bring anything up about the election, or mention Donald Trump.”

Gaga was an ardent supporter of Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton during the election who protested Donald Trump the day after the election by getting on a sanitation truck with a sign that said “Love trumps hate.”

The singer also posted about the election and her support of Clinton on social media.
