Man with a gun becomes a hero when he spots an officer being attacked by an armed madman

It was described by a witness as like a scene from a Quentin Tarantino shoot ’em up blockbuster movie.

An Arizona Department of Public Safety officer, responding to reports of gunshots fired on a stretch of I-10 near Phoenix, stopped to assist a motorist in an overturned vehicle.

It was then that the trooper was ambushed and shot in the shoulder, prompting a gun owner and Good Samaritan on his way to California to jump into action.

The trooper’s attacker jumped on and began beating the officer, identified as Edward Andersson, a 27-year veteran, after he shot him in the shoulder and chest.

Arizona’s KTAR News reported:

The driver, whose name has not been released, was in the car with his family. He pulled over after seeing the fight. He asked the officer if he needed help and when the officer said yes, ran back to his car and retrieved a weapon.

The family man drew his weapon and demanded the attacker stop. When that didn’t happen, he fired and hit the man multiple times. The stranger used the police car radio to call for help.

Anderson was hospitalized in serious but stable condition after the incident, but it would have been much worse without the Good Samaritan’s involvement.

“I don’t know that my trooper would be alive without his assistance,” Department of Public Safety Director Col. Frank Milstead said of driver’s intervention.

“I would just say thank you,” Milstead added.

The Grand Canyon State’s common sense approach to gun laws allows a person to use deadly force in defense of another — even a stranger. That approach also means that it wasn’t unusual that the passing motorist had a firearm in his possession.

“Arizona was open-carry before it was a state,” Charles Heller, co-founder of guns-rights group the Arizona Citizens Defense League, said of laws allowing people to carry firearms in public. “If you see a guy walking down the street in Tucson, Arizona, with a gun on, you don’t think much of it. It’s natural.”

No matter how much the left may want to ignore it, the rule hasn’t changed: It takes a good guy with a gun to stop a bad guy with a gun.
