German entrepreneur’s ‘safe shorts’ designed to protect women from rape immediately sell out

A German woman has designed clothing to protect other women from sexual attacks like the one she experienced.

The first 150 “Safe Shorts” were sold out immediately after being offered by the German entrepreneur, according to the UK Express.

Sandra Seilz designed the pants, which come with a lock for women’s intimate areas and a built-in alarm, after she was reportedly attacked by three drunken men when she was jogging in the woods.

A “protective shield” seals off the wearer’s intimate areas as the website describes.

“Get into your SAFE SHORTS, pull the ergonomically running tear and cut resistant high-tech cords until the pants are seated,” the website states.  “Fix the strings on the closing mechanism and the 130 decibel siren power alarm and close. If someone is tugging at your SAFE SHORTS, the alarm is immediately triggered and the pants can not be pulled down.”

The inventor of the jogging pant hopes to make a lockable version of regular-wear pants for going out.

“Safe Shorts provide triple protection against sexual assaults, and we’re very proud of them,” Seilz said, according to Express.

Social media users were quick to offer their thoughts, and some alternative means of protection, on Twitter.
