A Texas hat company that has made hats for many famous people has created a luxurious one for the new president-elect.
The headpiece, created by the American Hat Co., is made of beaver belly fur and mink and dressed with gold and diamond trim.
The company has been around for more than a century and made hats for television and the movies as well as stars like Pharrell Williams, Lyle Lovett and the Zac Brown Band.
“If you think about it, the cowboy hat is probably the most recognizable piece of apparel on the planet Earth,” company president Keith Mundee told the Wichita Falls Times-Record News. “It’s very distinct. If you put me with a cowboy hat anywhere on the planet, someone’s eventually going to say, ‘Are you a cowboy?’ It’s the one thing that’s truly American; the cowboy is an iconic American symbol.”
The American Hat Co. was asked by Eric Trump on the night after the election to make a hat for the President-elect Donald Trump after he saw, and admired, the hat Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller, the the Times-Record News reported.
“It morphed into now we’re making hats for Eric, for Don Jr. and for Mike Pence as well,” Mundee told the Times-Record News.
The company is famous in the Western apparel and rodeo worlds but this is the first time its made a hat for a president.
“Everyone throughout the factory was pretty proud that we had the opportunity to make a hat for him,” Mundee said.
The hat, whose gold foil lettering reads, “President, Donald J. Trump; United States of America; January 20, 2017,” will be on display National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas this weekend while it coordinates with the president elect’s staff as too when it will present the hat to Trump.
