Obama pushed Clinton to concede election, source says: ‘If anybody knew what actually happened that night . . .’

As results seemed to turn against her on election night, Hillary Clinton reportedly received a call from President Obama urging her to concede the race to Donald Trump.

hillary-c“You need to concede,” Obama told the former Democratic presidential nominee as she and her campaign team watched results slip in key Rust Belt states, according to The Hill, citing sources in an upcoming book by its senior White House correspondent Amie Parnes.

Campaign chairman John Podesta was sent to tell the Clinton crowd in Manhattan’s Javits Center to go home but assured them that every vote would be counted. But, not getting the miracle turnaround they were hoping for in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, Clinton admitted defeat and placed a call to Trump around 2:30 a.m.

“There was a lot of discussion about Michigan and Wisconsin and whether the numbers could flip it,” a source said, according to the Hill. The final numbers in those states, in which Green Party candidate Jill Stein is currently seeking recounts, were so close that Clinton might not have made that call to Trump without the push from Obama, according to the source.

“If anybody knew what actually happened that night, no one would have conceded,” the source said.

Apparently swayed by Obama’s call, Clinton ended the waiting before Podesta even returned to the room at the Peninsula Hotel in Manhattan.

“Just give me the phone,” a frustrated Clinton said. “I’m calling him.”

Clinton’s allies believe she should have waited longer for the results in the key swing states and  Obama’s call was premature, according to the Hill.
