A popular Florida west coast seafood restaurant is undergoing a change in clientele, all because of messages its owner placed on the eatery’s outdoor marquee.
The sign outside Barnacle Bill’s Seafood Restaurant & Market in Sarasota says, “NRA member, concealed carry OK, I am a deplorable, vote Trump.”

Restaurant owner William Davis posted the message after Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton claimed that she placed half of Trump’s supporters into what she called a “basket of deplorables.”
And he plans to keep the message up until November 8 — election day.
“If you’re going to make a statement, you got to go all the way,” Davis told local ABC affiliate WWSB Channel 7 News.
“It was a big gamble on my part, because usually dealing with the public, I try to sit on the fence and not take sides,” Davis told the station. But because of Clinton’s statement, “I just couldn’t do it anymore.”
And Davis has lost a few customers since he posted his message Tuesday.
“Well it makes us look like we’re Trump supporters if we eat at a restaurant where there’s a Trump sign, and we’re not, we’re Hillary supporters,” John Hanlon said, who put an end to his four-to-five year Tuesday lunch routine at Barnacle Bill’s.
Tom Benjamin agreed. “We’ve gotten to know the staff really well, and we really like it here. But we saw that sign, and just in good conscience, we can’t eat here anymore.”
But those customers he lost have been replaced by new ones — because of the sign.
“I have people walking in, and they go ‘We’re deplorable, may we have a seat?'” Davis told WWSB.
Others could care less — they come for the food, not for the political messages.
“I think what the heck? He’s a citizen, he can do what he wants,” said Joseph LiVolsi. “It won’t affect me, no.”
“I think people are allowed to choose whoever they want to choose,” added Gary Kuentzler.
Perhaps more than anything Davis reclaimed bold independence by standing up for his beliefs no matter the cost. And that, is priceless.
